This project was completed via the design/build delivery method. This building was to be constructed on an existing portion of the owners property that was paved and contained wet lands. Based on what the owner needed for his operations, the building needed to be located onsite that had a major impact to the property’s wetlands. DBK’s engineering team (Civil EOR and Environmental Engineer) had to work with St. Johns River Water Management District (SJRWMD) and Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP) to secure all approvals to mitigate this wetland area through the purchase of wetlands credits from the proper mitigation bank.
The 21,000 sf new showroom and service building was constructed via a pre-engineered metal building (PEMB) in order to provide a clear span inside the building to allow for total freedom of boat positioning inside the showroom as well as the shop area. The front of the building was constructed with an independent structural metal stud wall that allowed for the use of aluminum metal panels. The main roadway exposed side of the building contained an expansive curtainwall system that spanned two floors and utilized a range of blue tent on the glass to give the appearance of refraction off water. The design and construction was not your typical PEMB. The building finishes all tied to the nautical theme to enhance the boats inside the showroom. Even the epoxy floor was constructed to give the appearance of water under the boats.
