The CSX Locomotive Service Center project in Russell, Kentucky, was delivered using the design-build delivery approach, resulting in the construction of a 64-foot by 338-foot preengineered steel building. This structure housed two tracks and service pits measuring 12 feet in width and 4 feet in depth, extending along a length of 320 feet. Additionally, the project included the installation of fueling and dispensing equipment, pipe bridges, sand conveying systems, and process piping networks essential for locomotive servicing.
Attached to the main building is a one-story support office facility with restrooms and storage space. The project scope included comprehensive design and construction services covering track infrastructure, site development, and building erection. Furthermore, the project scope expanded to incorporate additional track work, environmental work, and site enhancements within the existing railroad yard.
